I’m participating in the WA Bootcamp to learn how I can successfully promote WA. Phase 1 is a 10 day course broken up into 10 separate lessons. Each lesson contains between 3 and 6 tasks for a total of 44 tasks.
Note: Before getting started I recommend you read My Wealthy Affiliate Review.
Day 1 — Getting Started
This lesson is basically an overview of the Wealthy Affiliate program and a break down of the affiliate program commission structure. It contains 4 simple tasks;
Task 1: Add Your Affiliate Goals in terms of Referrals to the Discussion
This is where you will establish your goals and meet other members of the WA community.
Task 2: Watch the Affiliate Program Walk through
This is the WA introduction video. It will show you how to set up your account, how to review your stats and will explain the commission structure for both free and premium members (yes, even free members can earn commissions).
Task 3: Sign up for the WA Newsletter
This will keep you advised and on track when new announcements are made and when new promotions are announced.
Task 4: Share WA in 3 places (or more if you wish)
This is a video that shows you how to share WA content and how by doing so you can earn more commissions. You can share on your favorite social media platform and/or by email.
Day 2 — Create Your Website
In this lesson I learned how to select a niche and build a website for that niche in less than a minute. I also selected a domain name for my website. I also learned how to target an audience for my niche. It was incredibly simple and it really took less than a minute to create my site. I think the hardest part was selecting my domain name but there was a discussion that involved members of the WA community that made it much easier.
Day 3 — Organize Your Website
In this lesson I learned how to set up my wordpress plugins. There are 3 simple yet powerful plugins; All in One SEO, Exclude Pages From Navigation, and SI CAPTCHAAnti-Spam.
Day 4 — Making Your Site Theme Based
The tasks contained in this lesson are going to allow your site to establish its direction. In this lesson I learned how to select a theme for my site. Specifically I was instructed how to select three main themes (or topics) for my site. From there II was instructed how to select 10 ideas (or subtopics) for each theme. That’s a total of 30 ideas for my three themes. I also learned how to add pages for my themes. This lesson included a video overview that will walk you through the entire process. I had a few questions and received prompt replies that allowed me to progress quickly and reduce any frustration I encountered. I think this is one of the most important lessons in Phase 1 because it gets me started in the right direction and on one path toward online success.
Day 5 — Take a Break
Ahhh, time to take a much deserved break. First task was to catch up on any unfinished tasks. The next task was to share WA in three places (or more). Next task was to join in a WA discussion on how to promote Wealthy Affiliate with someone in person. Final task was to participate in one of the WA classroom discussions. This is a great lesson in that it reinforces the importance of networking within the WA community and outside of the community. It also gives you the opportunity to explore the vast number of educational resources that WA offers.
Day 6 — How to Write Content
This lesson (lesson six) is where the rubber meets the road. In other words this is where you are given the keys to your shiny new website and take it for a spin. In this lesson you’ll learn how to begin the process of “writing out” your themed content. This can be a daunting moment for many but don’t worry about it too much because the video lesson, the tutorial and the community discussion page will guide you through the process.
There are plenty of people in the community who have gone through this training and are standing by to answer any questions you may have.
Oh, I almost forgot–there is a tutorial provided in this lesson that will explain what is referred to in internet marketing circles as the “Customer Purchase Lifecycle” or in other words, how to get customers to come back to your site and eventually buy what you’re selling. You really need to understand this if you want to succeed online and this WA tutorial will make it very clear.
Day 7 — Make Your Content Search Engine Ready
In this lesson I learned to set up my Akismet plugin. The beauty of this plugin is that it will prevent spam comments from infiltrating your site. Spam is disgusting and if you don’t control it it will destroy your site as readily as termites and mold will destroy your home. I also learned how to update my pages and posts to ask for feedback. This lesson includes instructions that will enable you (as it has enabled me) to ask for and receive comments on your content.
Before moving on to the next lesson it’s important to understand why comments are so important to your website.
Three Reasons Why Comments Are Important to Your Website
Day 8 — Create a Product Review
In this lesson I learned how to add product review posts to my site. I created a list of of 5 products that I felt I knew enough about that I could write a review. The first product review I completed was my WA review which you can read at My Wealthy Affiliate Review. I posted my 2nd review, How to Sell Amazon Products Online, within the discussion thread and was pleased with the feedback I received (see below). One of the responses suggested I make a few minor changes that really improved my review. I was then instructed to comment on 2 other WA reviews and to share my reviews using the popular social media platforms and email.
Day 9 — Adding WA Content to Your Site
This lesson will show you how you can incorporate content that is on the WA site into your site. The benefit of doing this is that it will enhance your blog posts with great training videos and tutorials. These videos and tutorials will contaion your affiliate link so you’ll get the credit for anyone who joins through your link. You’ll also learn how to add your WA profile link to your About Me page. Take a look at my About Me page and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
Day 10 — Generating Ideas
This lesson will show you how you can generate a constant stream of ideas for your blog posts. You’ll learn how to create a Google alerts account so you can keep up with the latest news and trends in your niche. You’ll also learn how to tap into what people are asking about in your niche. The benefit of having your finger on the pulse of your niche is you’ll be the first person to show up to help someone when they have a problem. Kind of like being a super hero.
